You have luxury hotels, you have boutique hotels and then you have the Thompson Denver. Setting the standard in its respective lane, this handsome gem attracts locals and globetrotters alike with its sultry modern-day chalet feel.
Breathe in the alpine mountain views and uniquely discover what happens when you bring urban sophistication and boutique mountain style together. Thompson Denver, impressive and inspiring, is where travel dreams begin in the Mile High City’s elevated social scene.
The newly opened (in 2022!) Thompson Denver is part of the World of Hyatt hotel group. It’s easily accessible and only 20 miles away from the Denver International Airport (DIA). From the airport, you can either rent a car or order a rideshare but for this hotel, the easiest option is to take the A train directly from the airport, which can sometimes be even faster than in a car. This light rail will take you to Union Station downtown which is only a 5-minute walk from the hotel!
The Thompson Denver also provides complimentary transportation for guests to destinations less than 2.5 miles away. If you do decide to drive, there is a covered valet and tons of self-park options nearby.
The hotel entrance draws you in with tall brushed copper walls leading you into the lobby of this color-rich paradise. The design is impeccable – like a staged photo in a magazine. Terracotta tones with brick accents play off one another dancing in the natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows placed perfectly around the room. The reception desk sits in front of a stunning collection of marble slabs put together so perfectly that it looks like one piece. It is the most gorgeous black marble with dramatic veins throughout that look like rivers. We were told these marble slabs are actually from the owner’s private inventory – so beautiful!
To the left of the reception desk, you’ll find the hotel’s on-site legendary coffee bar called Duel Coffee. When we say legendary we literally mean it! Over 150 years ago in 1877, two famous madams of Denver, Mattie Silks and Kate Fulton, dueled it out over a mutual love interest, Corteze Thomson. You can read more about their duel on the hotel’s website here!
The namesakes and playful nods to these notorious settlers continue downstairs to a few of the hotel’s pre-function, ballroom, and meeting spaces. We rarely touch on meeting spaces here at Uniquely Discovered but the event spaces throughout the Thompson Denver are too unique and gorgeous not to mention! Our favorite of the spaces downstairs is the Corteze Foyer. It has a playful speakeasy feel with luxurious deep jewel tones and upscale lounge spaces separated by velvet drapery and a stunning two-story oversized hearth fireplace that extends through the lobby upstairs.
Heading back up to the lobby floor, you’ll find one of the on-site restaurants, Chez Maggy, opened by Michelin star chef Ludo Lefebvre. It’s a delicious take on French cuisine using local ingredients from Colorado as well as imported from around the world. It’s open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Chez Maggy is one of the few, if not the only, restaurants in town that import their escargots straight from Burgundy, France. Paired with their house-made baguettes and butter, these little guys are DIVINE! Gluten-free or not, we had to eat all the bread, it was irresistible!
If you feel like indulging a bit more, you have to try their take on Chilaquiles as it was one of the best we’ve had. And of course, you can’t go thirsty, so we would recommend washing it down with the Smokin’ Peaches cocktail at Bar M – the bar inside Chez Maggy!
Thompson Denver provides one of the coolest on-site social scenes at Reynard Social, where you can grab trendsetting cocktails and bites Tuesday – Saturday from 5 pm and on. Fun fact: it’s named after Reynard the Fox, a mischievous trickster character of European folklore.
Located on the 6th floor, this chic, swanky, and ultra-modern lounge is the perfect place to catch a sunset or join in on one of their many unique pop-up events. It’s the epitome of alpine luxury and has incredible views of the Rocky Mountains with oversize windows that span the entire wall, as well as views of the Denver skyline through the skylights placed above throughout. It gives you the feeling you’ve traveled a far distance to find this place.
Each room/area at Reynard Social offers its own unique ambiance and decor. The most unique spaces we loved at Reynard Social were the listening lounge in the back and the corner sunroom with the white fireplace. This corner room overlooks the Rockies, has huge windows, and whimsical furniture, and gives off a mix of boho and southwestern vibes! Chelsea wanted to live in this room.
The listening lounge has a more masculine and mischievous feel to it with a pool table, lounge seating, and even a Victrola T1 Turntable. Thompson Denver has a partnership with Denver-based Victrola, a manufacturer of turntables for over 100 years. A variety of their record players are featured throughout the hotel, even in the guestrooms and suites.
In fact, if you are in town for a show at Red Rocks and staying in a suite, make sure to let the hotel know. They will place a record album in your room of the particular artist to play on your own personal Victrola turntable set up in your room. Such a fun and personalized touch!
There are five suite types and eight room types to choose from, with 216 guest rooms in total. The King Corner Room and Mile High Suite are incredible options for a couple or small family.
For a larger group, or if you just want to live it up for the weekend, the Thompson Suite is an absolute must! It’s a 1,032 sq ft corner suite featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, a two-way gas fireplace, and a spacious open-air private terrace with mountain views. It’s an entertainer’s dream and can even host up to 30 friends for the evening.
All the guest rooms at the Thompson Denver feature a sensual color palette of deep greens, dark browns, and sophisticated grays. There are unique features hidden throughout the room like artwork from local artists to recessed cubbies in the saddle leather headboards for any personal items or drinks, which is such a cool concept!
The bathrooms are spacious with contemporary black fixtures and mirrors, D.S. & Durga bath amenities, and a tall walk-in shower. The shower has eucalyptus-green vertical tiling and a huge rainfall shower head – it makes you feel like you’re in a peaceful outdoor spa in Bali!
You can even request a fresh Eucalyptus Shower Bundle from the hotel prior to your trip to add to the spa feeling! The Thompson Denver has a local partnership with Pickletown Flower Co for this, as well as the other beautiful dried florals you’ll see throughout the public spaces. Yet again – another personalized touch!
Every type of guest room comes with an extensive list of amenities. Robes, slippers, blackout curtains, luxury bedding, a spa-inspired shower, AND a Nespresso machine…?! Sign us up! The rooms also feature a fantastic “honor” bar with local snacks and libations and even a phone charger if you forget yours (we’ve all been there)!
Thompson Denver nails the amenities! Ultimately, it’s the little things that matter and the Thompson Denver has taken the time to focus on the personalized details that make a stay unforgettable.
The hotel concierge even curates a weekly list for guests of the top happenings in the area and at the hotel – Bitchin’ Stichin’, Tincture Thursday, and Find Your Inner Rocker are just a few of the quirky events offered! Note: these are also open to non-guests!
As mentioned above, the hotel does have a complimentary transportation service for guests as well as valet. This hotel is Disco-approved and extremely pet-friendly! There is no additional pet fee.
The hotel offers a digital check-in process and a digital room key, which is very convenient! Additional amenities include a fitness center, room service and complimentary wifi.
Union Station: not only a train station but a vibrant gathering place full of chic sips, treats and shops – a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Check out the Cooper Lounge for an amazing brunch and unlimited mimosas!
Dairy Block: an eclectic micro-district home to dozens of restaurants, bars, and retailers only an 8-minute walk from the hotel. There is always something fun going on here!
Beer Spa: one of the more unique concepts we’ve seen. It’s 2 miles from the hotel and not only features beer-infused spa treatments, beer baths, and infrared saunas but also a wall of craft beers, wines, and ciders on tap. So fun!
Coors Field: only a 10-minute walk from the hotel separates you from cheering on the Rockies at a MLB baseball game! One of the funnest seats in the house? The Rooftop in the upper right field – it has some of the best sunset views of the Rockies and a party atmosphere
Red Rocks Amphitheater: an iconic world-renowned outdoor music venue. Make sure to let the hotel know if you’re going to a show here for an extra surprise! Red Rocks is a magical place!
Howl at the Moon: a live music venue located a quick 10-minute walk from the hotel with a high-energy party vibe
The Mile High City is a breathing art exhibit waiting to be discovered and Thompson Denver is located right in the heart of it!
Each Thompson property worldwide has a different aesthetic, uniquely integrating with the respective city its located in. Thompson Denver does an impeccable job at mixing Colorado flavor with a sultry European charm. It’s perfect for couples and larger groups alike who are looking for a more-than-unique experience!
Like a well-crafted cocktail at Reynard Social, Thompson Denver will not disappoint! You’ll be inspired to wine, dine, and play during all hours of the day at this hotel in the historic LoDo neighborhood.
When coming to Denver, you should always be prepared for four seasons! With that being said, Denver has some of the best weather year-round nationwide (hello 300 days of sunshine!) Always make sure to double check the weather before you pack and remember – layers are your friend! Denver does have a dryer climate as we are a mile closer to the sun so with the lack of moisture in the air, 50 degrees here is actually very enjoyable! Make sure to drink lots of water so you can have as much fun as possible in the Mile-High city!
